Declaring impermissible transactions permissible in Burma
Question
Question: In Burma some scholars say that conducting interest-based transactions with kafirs is permissible, consuming interest is lawful, selling the meat of carrion and the like is lawful, and supplying pork is lawful. What punishment should such scholars receive in the view of the Shari‘a, and how should they be dealt with? What is the Shari‘a ruling regarding those who, having listened to their words, do the said things?
Answer
Ask these scholars for their proof of its permissibility and write to us, so that it may be considered. The impermissibility and prohibition (being haram) of these things is clear from the Noble Qur’an, the hadith and fiqh. On what basis, then, do they call it permissible?
