Drinking Wine Before Its Prohibition
Question

In his article, discussing the prohibition of wine, he related the following incident: one day a Companion invited Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁ and Hazrat ‘Abd al-Rahman ﵁ and, after the meal, entertained them with wine. Having become intoxicated, they recited the verses of the Qur’an in an improper manner.
Answer
That Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁, before the prohibition of wine, drank wine and, [in that state], led the prayer, reciting in it Surah “Say, O disbelievers!” in an improper manner, is established in the books of hadith and tafsir with a sound (sahih) chain of transmission.
