One Person Sitting on a Cot While Another Recites the Qur’an Nearby Below
Question
A person is sitting on a rope bed, and below, in the same room, another person is reciting the Holy Qur’an — is this correct, or should the [first] person sit lower, off the cot?
Answer
If a person sits on a cot in such a way that nearby, just below, another person is holding the Holy Qur’an and reciting it, then according to our custom (‘urf) this is considered contrary to proper etiquette (adab).
