Is Forgiveness Linked to the Victory? In What Does the Comparison with Prophet Musa Consist?

Question

Question: In Surah al-Fath, the words [ar]إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ[/ar] (“Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory”, Surah al-Fath, 48:1) — what is their connection with the verse [ar]لِيَغْفِرَ لَكَ اللَّهُ[/ar] (“...that Allah may forgive you...”, Surah al-Fath, 48:2, to the end of the verse)? Did the Prophet’s ﷺ forgiveness come about because of this victory (fath)?

Answer

Imam al-Razi ﵀ explained this connection in “Mafatih al-Ghayb” in four ways.
