The Conditions for Tafsir

Question

What are the conditions for the tafsir (exegesis) of the Noble Qur’an?

Answer

Construing the word according to its literal meaning or its well-known figurative meaning. Not being contrary to the context. Being corroborated by the understanding of those who witnessed the revelation (see “Tafsir Fath al-‘Aziz”).
