How Long Should the Interval Between the Nikah and the Bride’s Send-off Be?

Question

When should the bride be sent to her husband’s home after the wedding? Is sending the bride on the same day after the wedding a sunna? If it is a sunna, please cite references from the books.

Answer

After the nikah, delaying the bride’s send-off to her husband’s home according to the interests involved (masalih) is also valid. Between the nikah of Hazrat ‘A’isha Siddiqa ﵂ and her send-off to her husband’s home there was an interval of three years.
