Gifts of Reward on the Occasion of a Wedding
Question
When a wedding takes place people are happy. Usually at such a time sisters, the maternal grandmother and others make certain demands and say: “Give us our right (haqq).” What is meant by “right” is: since there is joy, make us happy too — just as people demand sweets and the like. And for the maternal grandmother and others it is the case that their due is fixed: that they will receive so much from the one whose wedding it is on the occasion of a wedding and the like.
Answer
These demands are not demands of the Shari‘a. However, servants live in hope and also make good supplications (du‘a); they should not be disappointed, so that they remain grateful and serve diligently in future, for: [ar]مزدور خوش دل کند کار بیش[/ar] “A labourer with a cheerful heart does more work.” The requests of loved ones are also based on connection and affection.
