The Groom’s Requests at Marriage

Question

Nowadays at weddings there are requests from the grooms’ side: they ask for all sorts of things. What is the ruling on taking, and moreover taking by insisting? And the giver is compelled — but still, what is the ruling on giving?

Answer

This insistence and these requests are wrong and improper; they should never be made. And the girl’s father too is not compelled according to the Shari‘a.
