Remission of mahr by means of a forged receipt
Question
(1) Under the pretext of a receipt for an electric fan, Zayd had Hinda sign two blank sheets of paper, and after that he wrote on them, as he pleased, a remission of the mahrs. In such a case, is Hinda entitled to receive the mahr or not? (2) While Hinda was staying with her parents, Zayd came to her father, spoke harshly to him and said that the consequences of this would not be good.
Answer
(1) The mahr has not been remitted by this deception. (2) If Hinda came to her father’s house compelled by unbearable oppression, or else the husband, instead of desisting from oppression and settling her with him in an honourable manner, adopted this course, then this too is oppression upon oppression. (3–4)
