The Nikah of a Sayyid Woman to a Pashtun
Question
Two of my maternal aunts are daughters of Pashtuns, a younger and an elder paternal uncle. The elder aunt, now deceased, was the wife of Rafi‘ al-Din, and the other aunt, now deceased, the wife of Nawab (a title of a Muslim ruling prince or nobleman) ‘Abd al-Razzaq. Rafi‘ al-Din’s elder daughter was married to Sayyid Matin; she has a daughter, Nafisa Parveen. ‘Abd al-Razzaq’s daughter was married into her maternal family to Rahmatullah Khan; they have a son, ‘Azizullah Khan.
Answer
If the Pashtun possesses good qualities, righteous deeds and excellent character, and the Sayyid girl and her guardian (wali) approve, then marrying such a Pashtun is also permissible.
