The Signs of Puberty

Question

Question: What signs of puberty (bulugh) are recognized in the Shari‘a?

Answer

In a boy the signs of puberty are three: ihtilam (a wet dream), inzal (emission of semen) and ihbal (making a woman pregnant). And in a girl they are also three: hayd (menstruation), ihtilam and pregnancy. If none of these signs is found, then, according to the position on which the fatwa is given (mufta bihi), both will be deemed adult on completing fifteen years.
