The Limit of Puberty for a Boy and a Girl
Question
Question: At what age are a boy and a girl regarded as adult among Muslims? When does the age of innocence end?
Answer
On the completion of fifteen years the ruling of puberty is given by the Shari‘a for both the boy and the girl. If signs of puberty appear before that, the ruling of puberty is given from that very time, whether fifteen years are complete or not. In a girl, as a rule, the signs of puberty do not appear before nine years, and in a boy, as a rule, not before twelve years.
