Is Marrying Without the Father’s Permission Disobedience?

Question

An adult, unmarried young man wants to contract marriage with a girl, but his father refused to marry him there because some discord arose, although the match had earlier been arranged there. An arrangement was made elsewhere, where a promise had been made to give the young man eight thousand rupees. The young man spurned those eight thousand rupees and married at the first place of his own will. Meanwhile, because of insistence and stubbornness, the father became displeased.

Answer

Making eight thousand rupees a condition for the young man is wrong; it is impermissible. There is no obedience to the father in an impermissible matter. If the young man, to keep away from this wrongful money, married by himself, he did not become disobedient.
