Nikah with One’s Daughter-in-Law

Question

Some time ago Zayd contracted marriage with his own daughter-in-law (his son’s wife). In such a case, is it permissible or impermissible to eat and drink at Zayd’s house? If there is any way out in the sight of Allah, please inform us, so that we may eat and drink at his home.

Answer

Contracting marriage with one’s son’s wife is utterly haram, according to the words of the Exalted: [ar]وَحَلَـٰٓئِلُ أَبْنَآئِكُمُ[/ar] “…and the wives of your sons…” (Surah al-Nisa’, 4:23) — and the nikah did not even come into being. Therefore have her separated from Zayd; then let Zayd repent, and then Zayd’s sin will be forgiven.
