The Nikah Khutba Is a Sunna, Not Fard

Question

Is the nikah khutba fard or sunna? Is it valid if recited sitting, or not?

Answer

The nikah khutba is a sunna; it is neither wajib nor fard. The nikah is valid even without a khutba. If the nikah khutba is recited sitting, the nikah also undoubtedly takes place.
