The Status of the Khutba in Nikah

Question

The khutbas of nikah are two: the first and the second. If a person recites only the second khutba at a nikah, is the nikah valid or not? Please write with a reference to the noble hadith.

Answer

A single khutba is sufficient, and the khutba is mustahabb; therefore the nikah can take place even without a khutba. Nikah is the name of the offer and acceptance (ijab and qabul), and nothing more; therefore the khutba is not at the level of fard.
