Preventing someone from re-embracing Islam after apostasy

Question

Question: A Muslim woman entered into an unlawful relationship with a Hindu man and lived with him for several years. The Muslims tried to stop her from this evil act, but she did not listen to a word, flatly refused, and went on living with that Hindu. Now for some days she has been gravely ill, and at this time she wishes to repent and become a Muslim. What we need to know is: is there now room for her to accept Islam or not?

Answer

If she wishes to accept Islam again, then no obstacle whatsoever should be put in her way. No one has the right to prevent anyone from accepting Islam. Those who forbid her from accepting Islam are in the gravest danger — their own Islam is not safe: to be pleased with another person’s disbelief (kufr) and apostasy (irtidad)
