Question: Is India dar al-harb?

Answer

Regarding the definition and conditions of dar al-harb (the abode of war), the statements of the imams and the fatwas of the ‘ulama’ differ. Hazrat Shah ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Muhaddith Dehlawi ﵀ and Mawlana Isma‘il Shahid ﵀ declared India dar al-harb in their time, as is stated in “Fatawa ‘Azizi” and “Sirat-i Mustaqim”.
