Changing a wrong (taghyir al-munkar) is a lofty office
Question
Is it permissible to make a grave brick-built or not? And what is the ruling if it is brick-built on all four sides with earth in the middle? Kindly write on both counts: according to the fatwa and according to precaution (ihtiyat). A relative of mine passed away and, despite being forbidden many times, his son made the grave brick-built: brick on all four sides and earth in the middle. Until now the custom here has been only plain (earthen)
Answer
Since the grave was made brick-built “despite being forbidden many times”, consider for yourself whether or not a quarrel will arise if you pull it down. “Changing a wrong (taghyir al-munkar)” is a lofty office, but it requires great competence, and its conditions are also strict. Often in such a situation a great fitna arises which is hard to bear both religiously and worldly.
