Placing a slip with a written du‘a on the chest of the deceased
Question
21 March ’70. To the esteemed Qibla, the Grand Mufti of Dar al-‘Ulum Deoband. After respectful greetings, I submit that I have written a slip and am sending this slip in an envelope. Some things in my town seem new to me; for this reason I have troubled my elders, for which I ask forgiveness.
Answer
The second du‘a in the printed slip does not exist at all in Shami (Radd al-Muhtar); it is utterly wrong and a lie. The [du‘a] “There is no god but Allah, and Allah is Most Great…” is indeed there; but, first, it does not say that the luminous Prophet ﷺ said it, so this attribution is a lie greater than the first lie, because it is a lie against Shami, a lie against al-Hakim…
