Non-Muslim Women Coming to Sit near the Deceased
Question
On the day of a death, non-Muslim Hindu women come to the house of the deceased’s family, sit beside the dead body and offer condolences. Should these women be allowed to enter the house of the deceased or not?
Answer
These Hindu women should be removed from there — so it is in “[Hashiyat] al-Tahtawi ‘ala Maraqi al-Falah” (p. 328) — because that is a time when mercy descends, while curse rains down upon non-Muslims.
