Sprinkling water on graves

Question

After earth is heaped on the grave, one jug of water is poured over it from a jug, with the intention that coolness should reach the deceased. Is this practice or this belief correct or not?

Answer

This belief is wrong. However, pouring water for the purpose of making the earth settle firmly so that it is not scattered by the wind is established.
