Delaying the funeral until the Friday prayer
Question
If someone in a household dies on Friday morning, and his heirs bury him after the Friday prayer because [they hold that] if the funeral prayer is performed at the Jumu‘a there is greater reward, is it correct to hold such a belief or not?
Answer
Holding back the deceased for so long merely for this reason is makruh; what is mustahabb and best is to hasten his burial. If the death occurred at such a time that in burying him there is a fear of missing the Jumu‘a, then they should postpone it until the Friday prayer. So it is in “Tahtawi”, p. 332.
