The funeral prayer for one who drowned himself, and his forgiveness

Question

A man fell into a well and died. Should the funeral prayer be performed over him or not? Will he be forgiven or not?

Answer

The fatwa is that whoever commits suicide — whether by drowning or in some other way — the funeral prayer is to be performed over him too, and supplication should be made that Allah Most High forgive him his enormous crime.
