The funeral prayer is fulfilled by the takbirs alone

Question

If someone does not know the funeral prayer, may he say only the takbirs or not?

Answer

The funeral prayer is fulfilled by saying just the four takbirs. Whoever knows how to say the takbir may properly perform the funeral prayer. Reciting the du‘a is sunna (masnun). Thus it is in “Maraqi al-Falah”, p. 320.
