Abusing a Student of Religious Knowledge

Question

If someone abuses and dishonours a student of knowledge (talib al-‘ilm), what is the ruling on him in the Sacred Law?

Answer

If someone abuses and insults a student acquiring religious knowledge without any fault on his part, merely for his being a student of religious knowledge, it is extremely dangerous; with this it is hard to hold that iman remains safe, because this is belittling and degrading religious knowledge.
