Saying “If the Prophet Were in This Age, He Too Would Wear Terycot”

Question

One day a man asked a religious scholar, “Why do you wear terycot?” — and he at once replied, “If the Prophet were in this age, he too would wear terycot.” What is the ruling on this?

Answer

This reply too is unworthy of the people of knowledge — it is a base reply. At the very most they could say that it is not forbidden by the Sacred Law (if it is really not forbidden).
