Listening to a Na‘t of the Prophet ﷺ with Musical Instruments

Question

What is the ruling on listening to a na‘t (eulogy) in honour of the Holy Prophet ﷺ with musical instruments, when the listener reflects on the words of the na‘t and, disregarding the instruments, pays them no attention at all?

Answer

Reciting a na‘t with musical instruments is extremely dangerous; the jurists have passed a very severe ruling on it. One who listens to such a dangerous thing also exposes himself to danger, even if his attention is not on the instruments.
