Appointing Female Teachers and Co-education of Mature Children
Question
In an Islamic school whose entire administration is in the hands of Muslims, is it correct to appoint female teachers alongside male teachers? Likewise, what is the ruling on the co-education of boys and girls aged ten years or more?
Answer
Appointing women as teachers alongside men in an Islamic school is not correct according to the Sacred Law. Likewise, it is not permissible to enroll mature/discerning girls in a boys’ school. A ten-year-old girl (as stated in the question) should on no account be enrolled in such a school; there is severe fitna (temptation to sin) in it.
