A Scholar Instructing His Son-in-Law to Steal from His Father’s Shop
Question
A certain scholar, a teacher of hadith, used to tell his son-in-law: “Every day, secretly take [something] from your father’s, uncle’s, and the like shop and set it aside separately, so that it will be of use to you — because the wealth of the father, uncle, and the like is, [as it were], one’s own wealth; you too are at their shop, you earn [for them] — there is no harm in it.” Likewise, he also said this: “If a wife secretly takes some item belonging to her husband, there is no harm in that either.” (1)
Answer
This question had come before as well, and its answer was written. But there, having set out the circumstances of the case, the question concerned only the detaining of the boy; accordingly, that answer was considered sufficient.
