Wages for making pictures

Question

Question: I do contracting work; contracts for painting, iron grilles and the like are also my responsibility. Some people also have me make pictures. Are the earnings from this permissible for me or not?

Answer

Making a picture of an animate being oneself or having it made by others, having it engraved on wood, iron and the like — whether of one’s own will or at the customer’s will — is impermissible in every way; whether the customer ordering it is a Muslim or a non-Muslim, there is no permission for anyone’s sake.
