Taking a Fee for a Fatwa

Is it permissible to take a fee for giving a fatwa or not?

Answer

Giving fatwas for a fee takes two forms. The first is answering the question orally and taking a fee for it without the conditions of ijara and without a commitment of time; this is not permissible. The second is giving the answer to the request for a fatwa (istifta’)
