A Fundraiser’s Food as Part of the Salary
Question
For the teachers or travelling fundraisers of a madrasa who go out to collect donations for the madrasa, along with their salaries their food too is fixed on behalf of the madrasa. So, cheap in one place and dear in another, whatever is to be had, it is the madrasa’s expense; there is no specified amount for it. If, despite being unspecified, this is valid because during travel the hired worker’s (ajir’s) food is also the responsibility of the hirer (mustaʾjir), well and good (fa-biha)
Answer
Let this food be included under the case about which you wrote “fa-biha” (well and good). If, treating it as part of the salary, an additional one rupee per day, for example, is fixed, there is latitude for this as well — whether this addition is spent wholly or partly, or is saved and becomes entirely surplus.
