Using Medicine That Delays Menstruation in Ihram out of Necessity
Question
My wife is going on Hajj with me, and in this connection it is necessary to ask about several issues. (1) If my wife’s menstruation begins during the days of Hajj, what is the way, according to the Shari‘a, to complete the Hajj? There is also a medical way of dealing with it: a certain kind of medicine is used which stops the menstruation or makes it come some days later. Is this method permissible, given that the purpose is a lofty one?
Answer
The standing at ‘Arafat (wuquf) is valid even in the state of menstruation; however, tawaf al-ziyara should be performed after the menstruation has ended, and if a delay results from this, there is no harm in it.
