Where Should One Travelling from India by Ship Enter Ihram?

Question: According to the Shari‘a of the Hanafis, from where should pilgrims travelling from India by ship enter ihram? From which place is it wajib, and from which place fard? On what is the fatwa of the Hanafis? I intend to perform Hajj. Where does the Haram begin?

Answer

For one travelling by ship along the route that existed from olden days, ihram used to be entered on reaching the point in alignment with Yalamlam (muhadhat). This has been the practice of the senior scholars and jurists of India, and even now it is the most cautious course (ahwat)
