Is Yalamlam or Jeddah the Miqat for Indians?
Question
Is there any objection to donning the ihram upon arrival in Jeddah instead of at the mountain of Yalamlam, which is the miqat for Indians? It is said that Jeddah is also outside the Haram, so there is nothing wrong with entering ihram from there. However, what is more preferable and better (afdal wa ahsan)?
Answer
More preferable and cautious (afdal wa ahwat) is to don the ihram at Yalamlam; this was also the practice of the predecessors (aslaf). However, from a geographical standpoint, some contemporary scholars, upon studying maps, hold that the flight path does not even pass parallel (muhadhah) to Yalamlam, and therefore donning the ihram before Jeddah is not obligatory.
