Hindus applying sindoor to Muslims’ foreheads at official ceremonies

At official ceremonies Hindus apply sindoor (red powder) to the foreheads of Muslims. What is the ruling regarding this?

Answer

Participation in their religious symbols and rites (shaʿaʾir) is not permitted.
