The miracle of the splitting of the moon shown in cinema and its justification
Question
Zayd says that if in a cinema show a picture of the miracle of the splitting of the moon (shaqq al-qamar) is shown and na‘ts (eulogies of the Prophet ﷺ) and ghazals are recited, then, according to the word of Allah Most High: [ar]إِنَّ ٱلْحَسَنَـٰتِ يُذْهِبْنَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ[/ar] “Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds” (Surah Hud, 11:114), the force of the sin is lessened.
Answer
Zayd’s statement is wrong and ʿUmar’s statement is correct. Reciting the na‘t of the Prophet ﷺ on such an occasion is disrespect and contrary to due reverence: [ar]وفي الخلاصة: من قرأ القرآن على ضرب الدف والقضيب يكفر.
