Going to the cinema and theatre

Question

What is the ruling on Muslim men and women going to cinema halls, the theatre and shows?

Answer

It is impermissible. [ar]الملاهي كلها حرام حتى التغني بضرب بالقضيب[/ar] “All instruments of amusement (malahi) are haram, even singing with the beating of a stick” (al-Hidaya, vol. 4, p. 455, Rashidiyya edition).
