Children’s dolls and toys

Question

In Muslims’ homes there are toys for children, and among them there are very often dolls and the like. What is the ruling on a child playing with such toys? What is the ruling on keeping them in Muslims’ homes? What is the ruling on Muslims trading in them?

Answer

If the shape and form of a doll or of any other toy is not that of an animate being, there is no harm in it. Making the image of an animate being and keeping it in the house is forbidden; do not keep them even for children, and do not trade in such images either.
