Seclusion with an elderly man

Question

Is it permissible or not for an old man of sixty or eighty years to converse in private with a non-mahram woman or a maiden?

Answer

It is prohibited: [ar]وأجمعوا أن العجوز لا تسافر بغير محرم، فلا تخلو برجل شابًّا أو شيخًا[/ar] “They agreed unanimously that an old woman does not travel without a mahram; hence she does not remain in seclusion with a man, whether young or old” (“Shami”, vol. 5, p. 235).
