Hijab from a non-mahram servant

Question

Zayd is obedient to his wife and has employed for his wife a non-mahram man as a servant, who is constantly occupied in serving her, namely cooking, sweeping and household work. Both husband and wife call him simple-minded and say he is a child, although his moustache has begun to grow and he has reached the age of puberty. Is it right, for the sake of one’s own comfort, for him to go about the house without restriction? And is it right for the young lady of the house to take service from such a person?

Answer

It is necessary to observe hijab from a non-mahram. And since he is a servant and also does the household work, seclusion (khalwa) with him must often occur as well; it is haram for a woman to be in seclusion with a non-mahram.
