Details on the hair of the head

Question

Question: What is the sunna way of keeping hair on the head? Is keeping locks a sunna, or shaving? Some people shave with a razor, some have it clipped with a machine, and some keep short and long hair (the “English” haircut). Which of these ways is correct?

Answer

In general, among the Arabs the custom was to keep the hair; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept his hair. Shaving when leaving the state of ihram is also established, and at such a time he gave preference to shaving over trimming. Shaving part and leaving part is forbidden: if one shaves, let him shave all of it, and if he keeps it, let him keep all of it.
