Imitating the disbelievers in hairstyle
Question
[/ar] Question: What is the ruling on hair that is cut only at the back of the head, as the disbelievers do: is it permissible or not, or is it haram?
Answer
[ar]مَا كَانَ شِعَارُ الْكُفَّارِ، فَإِنْ كَانَ شِعَارًا مَذْهَبِيًّا فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَإِنْ كَانَ شِعَارًا قَوْمِيًّا فَهُوَ مَكْرُوهٌ.[/ar] Whatever is a distinctive mark (shi‘ar) of the disbelievers: if it is a religious mark, it is haram for Muslims, and if it is a national (communal) mark, it is makruh.
