Sex change

Question: What is the status, according to the pure Shari‘a, of changing sex ("sex"), i.e. a man becoming a woman or a woman becoming a man by means of an operation? Is it permissible or impermissible? Several incidents of this kind have already taken place, which is why Your Eminence is being troubled.
