Having an extra finger cut off

Question

If a person has one extra finger and it looks unsightly, what is (the ruling on) having it cut off? Is it permissible or impermissible? If it is impermissible, what is preferable — that is, does Allah’s good pleasure lie in having it cut off or in not having it cut off?

Answer

Having it cut off is also permissible and is not contrary to Allah’s good pleasure; but there will also be pain, so let him consider his own endurance.
