A Muslim doctor conducting medical examinations for an insurance corporation
Question
Question: Is it permissible for a Muslim doctor to be appointed by the life insurance corporation to examine the health of those who are to be insured? The doctor is paid a fee by the corporation for each examination. Neither before nor after the examination does the doctor have any interest in the matter; he only verifies or diagnoses the things the person taking out the insurance declares about his health in his application.
Answer
Life insurance is impermissible. The fee the doctor takes for conducting the examination is permissible; he may spend it on any of his needs.
