Plastering the floor with dung
Question
May one, regarding it as pure, plaster the kitchen, the courtyard, for colouring (?) and the like with the dung of cows, buffaloes, oxen and the like? What is the ruling on its impurity? What is the ruling on the impurity of animals — grazing beasts and birds?
Answer
Dung is impure. Plastering with dung mixed into clay mortar is permissible; after drying it becomes pure: [ar]إذا جعل السرقين في الطين فطين به السقف فيبس فوضع عليه منديل مبلول لا يتنجس[/ar] “If dung is put into clay, the ceiling is plastered with it and it dries, and then a wet cloth is placed on it, the cloth does not become impure” (“Alamgiri”, vol. 1, p. 47).
