The ruling on ash

What is the ruling on eating ash, whether it is the ash of lawful things or of unlawful ones?

Answer

Ash takes the ruling of earth (clay), and concerning clay it is stated in “Fatawa Alamgiri”, in “Kitab al-Karahiyya”: [ar]أكل الطين مكروه، ذكر في فتاوى أبي الليث. وذكر شمس الأئمة الحلواني في شرح صومه: إذا كان يخاف على نفسه أنه لو أكله أورثه ذلك علة أو آفة لا يباح له التناول، وكذلك في كل شيء سوى الطين، وإن كان يتناول منه قليلًا أو كان يفعل ذلك أحيانًا لا بأس به.
