The food of a polytheist (mushrik)
Question
Question: What is the ruling on eating with a polytheist (mushrik), drinking water left over after him, and eating bread, sweets and the like baked by his hand? After all, in “Alamgiri” it is written that this is permissible, and the jurists have written that the sweat of a disbeliever is pure.
Answer
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ touched a disbeliever with his hand, ate food cooked by a disbeliever’s hand (after all, who was it that gave him poison?), and wore clothing made by a disbeliever’s hand. As long as no impurity is known, all these things are pure and permissible, although it is better (afdal) to use the things of a Muslim.
